Kokos Mentawai is a small, modern surf retreat built by hand and run with heart by two local surfers, Bayu and Chan, on a quiet stretch of Siberut in the northern Mentawais. The setting mixes clean design with jungle and ocean. A three storey surf house for a maximum of nine guests, fronted by palm trees and reef, with a wrap of blue water that catches sunrise and sunset in equal colour. It is intentionally small, intentionally personal and deliberately relaxed.

The wave zone is the first major draw. Over twenty five surf breaks sit within easy boat range, from playful shoulders to legitimate barrels, and two different boats run daily missions guided by locals who know how the reefs behave with each shift in tide and wind. Beng Bengs, Burgerworld, Pitstops, Nipussi, E Bay, 4 Bobs and a handful of private corners all fall into the daily rotation. The crew focuses on reading conditions and choosing the best window for the group’s level, so beginners and intermediates get the right pace, and advanced surfers can chase heavier sessions when the charts line up.

Life at the surf house feels social but calm. Rooms are clean, cool and comfortable with king or twin configurations, strong air conditioning, hot showers and wide ocean views. There is constant electricity and reliable Wi Fi if you need to work or stay connected. The communal areas are where the day slows down. A big deck with hammocks and lounge corners. A dining space that fills with the smell of freshly cooked meals. A local village close enough for walks, snorkelling in the lagoon out front, fishing gear ready when the wind comes up, and SUPs or soft top boards for the mellow hours.

Food is a standout. Guests consistently talk about the meals, with fresh homemade dishes blending Indonesian flavours with simple western comfort food. There is a breakfast a la carte menu, seasonal fruit, unlimited coconuts, and three chef made meals daily that regularly exceed expectations. Dietary preferences are handled easily, and long term guests often rate the food as one of the best parts of the stay.

The all inclusive package covers everything from airport pickup in Padang to accommodation at their Padang hostel, fast ferry tickets, harbour transfers, meals, drinking water, daily snacks, surf guiding and daily speedboat runs. Once you land in Padang the Kokos crew handles the chain of logistics until you step back onto your departing flight. It is designed for simplicity, comfort and a high return of surf time.
