Bilou Beach is a boutique private-villa surf escape on Awera island, set on a white-sand beach facing a turquoise lagoon and backed by coconut forest. The experience is intentionally different from the typical Mentawai surf camp. Instead of dorms or communal rooms, you get your own fully equipped beachfront villa, a private boat and captain (for each villa), stocked food on arrival, and the freedom to surf, explore or relax entirely on your schedule.

Each villa is tucked into the palms with indoor and outdoor living areas, ensuite bathroom, kitchen, cold storage, shaded deck and a private cabana on the beach. Guest capacity is deliberately low. Villas can host three single adults, two couples, or families with up to three children, keeping the property quiet and spacious even in peak season.

The surf program is uniquely private. Every villa gets its own personal driver and guide with private boat, meaning you are not sharing transport or timing with other guests. You choose where and when you want to surf and go directly there. With a host of breaks directly on your doorstep and more waves within ten to thirty minutes, it is one of the most flexible surf setups in the Mentawais. Intermediate to advanced surfers will find waves to match their level, from fun walls to heavier water days.

Food is a hybrid model. Villas arrive fully stocked with fresh produce, fruit, deli items, drinks and essentials for roughly a week. Every morning you receive fresh fruit salad and fresh ciabatta delivered to your door. Nights are social and simple. The Bilou Beach Bar and Deli hosts a full buffet dinner service every second evening where guests gather over fresh island cooking and cold drinks. It is an easy rhythm that balances privacy and community, giving you independence without having to handle daily provisioning.

Between surfs, the lagoon is clear and calm for snorkelling, paddling or unwinding in your private cabana. The property’s footprint is peaceful and family friendly. Power is reliable, water is filtered, and Wi-Fi is available for a small daily fee. Airport to camp travel is well supported, and the team helps coordinate Padang logistics, Mentawai Fast tickets, surfboard fees and timings for smooth transfers.
